In Korea, this is a popular comfort dish when you’re not very hungry, don’t feel like cooking, or just want a fast and easy meal.
Since kimchi is always in the fridge, it’s something you can whip up in less than 10 minutes.
🍚 Kimchi Fried Rice Recipe (Serves 1–2)
🧂 Ingredients
- 1 bowl of cooked rice
- 1 cup well-fermented kimchi, chopped
- 80 g pork or ham (optional)
- 1/4 onion, chopped (optional)
- A small amount of green onion, chopped
- 0.5–1 tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 tbsp sugar (optional — omit if you prefer less sweetness)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- Cooking oil
- 1 egg (for topping)

- Prepare the ingredients
Chop the kimchi, meat, onion, and green onion into bite-size pieces. - Make scallion oil
Heat cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add green onions and stir until fragrant. - Cook the meat
Add pork or ham and cook until lightly browned. - Stir-fry the kimchi
Add kimchi and red pepper flakes. Stir-fry well until the kimchi softens and is coated with oil. - Season
Add soy sauce and sugar (if using). Stir well to balance the flavors. - Add rice
Add the rice and increase heat to high. Stir quickly, breaking up clumps, until everything is well combined and slightly crispy. - Finish
Turn off the heat and drizzle with sesame oil. - Egg topping
Fry an egg separately and place it on top of the rice.
