Easy Kimchi Fried Rice (Ready in 10 Minutes)

In Korea, this is a popular comfort dish when you’re not very hungry, don’t feel like cooking, or just want a fast and easy meal.
Since kimchi is always in the fridge, it’s something you can whip up in less than 10 minutes.

🍚 Kimchi Fried Rice Recipe (Serves 1–2)

🧂 Ingredients

  • 1 bowl of cooked rice
  • 1 cup well-fermented kimchi, chopped
  • 80 g pork or ham (optional)
  • 1/4 onion, chopped (optional)
  • A small amount of green onion, chopped
  • 0.5–1 tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 0.5 tbsp sugar (optional — omit if you prefer less sweetness)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Cooking oil
  • 1 egg (for topping)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients
    Chop the kimchi, meat, onion, and green onion into bite-size pieces.
  2. Make scallion oil
    Heat cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add green onions and stir until fragrant.
  3. Cook the meat
    Add pork or ham and cook until lightly browned.
  4. Stir-fry the kimchi
    Add kimchi and red pepper flakes. Stir-fry well until the kimchi softens and is coated with oil.
  5. Season
    Add soy sauce and sugar (if using). Stir well to balance the flavors.
  6. Add rice
    Add the rice and increase heat to high. Stir quickly, breaking up clumps, until everything is well combined and slightly crispy.
  7. Finish
    Turn off the heat and drizzle with sesame oil.
  8. Egg topping
    Fry an egg separately and place it on top of the rice.

  • 🔥 Use high heat after adding rice for a smoky taste
  • 🧈 Add a small piece of butter for extra richness
  • 🧀 Top with cheese for a milder, kid-friendly version
  • 🌶️ Add a little gochujang if you like it spicier
